Your visit
What to expect
Assessment first, treatment second. You will always know what is being recommended and why before anything is applied.
Quick answer
Your first visit is a physiotherapy assessment. The clinician takes your history, examines the area, screens for anything requiring medical referral and explains the options. If shockwave therapy is appropriate, it is delivered as part of a wider rehabilitation plan and reviewed as you progress.
Before you arrive
- Wear or bring clothing that allows access to the area
- Bring any imaging reports or medical letters
- List your current medication
- Note what makes symptoms better or worse
- Allow time for questions
During the assessment
- Symptom history and goals
- Physical examination and loading tests
- Screening for contraindications
- Explanation of likely diagnosis
- Discussion of treatment options and alternatives
If shockwave is used
- Coupling gel is applied to the skin
- The applicator is moved across the target area
- You will feel repeated tapping and pressure
- Settings are adjusted using your feedback
- The session forms part of a wider plan
Afterwards
- Mild soreness for a day or two is common
- Follow the load-management advice given
- Complete your prescribed home exercises
- Report any unexpected or persistent reaction
- Progress is reviewed at follow-up
How many sessions will I need?
There is no fixed answer. Session numbers depend on the diagnosis, how long symptoms have been present, your response to treatment and how rehabilitation progresses. Your clinician will discuss an expected review point rather than promise a set course.
